People at Schenck Process

Accounts from students and graduates of the Cooperative State University (formerly University of Cooperative Education)

Marc Wiesebrock
Marc Wiesebrock successfully graduated as a Mechatronics Engineer in 2001 and now works in IBS Heavy as a Designer.

Marc Wiesebrock has kindly agreed to answer some questions

SP: Think back to when you started at Schenck Process. What was it like?
MW: Following my work experience at Schenck Process, I began studying at the University of Cooperative Education (comment: now Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University) and Schenck Process. In addition to studying the theory elements at the University, I worked in various departments. One of my first ports of call then was the Assembly Department, to familiarise myself with the products. After I graduated, I immediately started working in the Order Processing Department as a Designer.

SP: What do you particularly enjoy about your job?
MW: The design work, dealing with the customers, making special adaptations to reflect customer requirements and working with subsuppliers and the locations throughout the world. All of this keeps my work very varied and you are always encountering something new. I particularly enjoy managing projects and discussing problems and new material. I also like the way everyone in the team works so well together.

SP: If you had to describe Schenck Process as an employer to someone, what would you say?
MW: No, not Schenker. Schenck Process. People often get confused between the two companies. Unfortunately, Schenck Process isn't very well known as an employer outside Darmstadt. The work at Schenck Process is very interesting. You have contact with customers and different cultures, and you are always encountering new demanding tasks. There are no standard tasks. The working atmosphere is very friendly. Of course, we do also experience friction at times, but in general, the atmosphere is excellent.

SP: What, for you, has been the best experience of working at Schenck Process to date?
MW: During my degree, I spend 3 months abroad in the US. Another great experience is when a plant is completed and commissioned. But the highlight for me has to be the business trips to customers' premises. This allows you to travel to places you probably would never have otherwise gone to. I have had a number of memorable experiences on business trips, such as an adventurous overnight train journey through Russia.

SP: What are the benefits of working in a medium-sized company
MW: A major benefit has to be the flat hierarchy; it allows topics to be discussed and decisions to be made quickly.

SP: What do you do in your spare time?
MW: At the moment I'm renovating my house. But I also like spending time with my friends, relaxing at the weekend and playing a little sport now and again.
